Our new Edge VPN Phone system allows you to take an office phone home and use it with your work extension on it. You can transfer calls to other office extensions and have conference calls.

Here is how to setup an Edge VPN phone at home.

First: You Need ...

  • you need quality Internet. Notice we did not say fast. If you can stream a Netflix HD show at home, then your Internet is fast enough. What it cannot do is stutter or lag. Satellite has a lot of lag. Any connection, if it is faulty can stutter.
  • Best setup: you can run a network cable from your Internet router to your Edge VPN phone.
  • Acceptable: if you cannot sit by your router, we have a wireless extender. The less objects - walls, refrigerators - between your router and the wireless extender, the better.

Second: Power Your Phone

We gave you one of these power injectors with your phone. Plug the injector into a wall outlet with the power cord. Plug a network cable from your router (or wireless extender) to the injector. Then run a second cable from the injector to your Edge VPN phone.

Here is which port you plug which your cables into:

Third: Bring Your Work Extension to Your Phone

When you plug your phone into your power injector, your phone will start up. Give it a couple of minutes to boot up. The first time you do this at home, it will come to a screen that says "Available". Or in some instances, "Anonymous".

As long as it does not report an error, your Edge VPN phone is working correctly. It is actually already able to dial other extensions at the office. You will take advantage of that fact to assign your extension to this phone:

  1. Dial 5656 or press Voicemail button on the phone.
  2. Press # # (twice).
  3. Enter the extension number you wish to reassign.
  4. Enter the password for that extension.
  5. Press Option 7, Mailbox Options.
  6. Press Option 3, Reassign Your Extension.
  7. Press Option 1, Assign Your Extension To This Telephone.

Your name and extension will appear on the phone's display. It now is, in fact, your office phone.
