Changing the Resolution on Windows 10

Changing the resolution can blow up or shrink the size of the content on your screen.

Proceed with Caution.

Changing the resolution may adversely affect how the content on your screen displays.  Some program buttons or windows may not display properly.  If this is the case, set your resolution back to how you had it.

Recommended Resolutions:

1920 x 1080 (more, but smaller content) - Not recommended for laptop screens.

1600 x 900 (less, but larger content) - Ideal for laptop screens.

1366 x 768 (far less, but much larger content) - Not recommended for desktop screens.

How To Change The Resolution:

  1. Save all of your work and close out any open application.
  2. Right-click on any blank area of your desktop background.  Then select Display Settings.

  3. In the Customize your display window, select the Advanced display settings option.

  4. Select the resolution drop-down menu, and choose your desired resolution, then select Apply.

  5. If your screen looks correct, select the Keep changes option.  If not, select Revert and try another resolution.

  6. IMPORTANT:  Once you have set your screen resolution, log off the computer and log back on before opening any applications.
